Fender Stu Hamm Urge 1 Bass. . . . . .

How ironic!!!!

This bass is still the most searched for instrument on my blog and
I don't even own it any more!!
Wish I did now - a great bit of kit!

I guess there is a lot of interest in either Stu Hamm - well can't fault that
or it's because it's a medium scale or it's a lightweight, medium scale, active??
I just don't  know why it is searched for so often.
Maybe the search is Stu Hamm or Urge Bass, perhaps looking for the USA
model - your guess is as good as mine.
I don't think I have seen one up for sale since I sold mine, which I think, was
a couple of years ago.

So, anyone who lands on this entry, that has searched for a Stu Hamm Urge 1,
drop me a line in the comments and tell me if you have one, would like one or
are just interested in what they are about.

Back next week with something different.

Cheers. :)

  1. Hello, I have a Urge 1 MIA, and was searching for more information on it. So I've found your site and looked at yours. Greetings from The Netherlands.

  2. Hi. Nice to hear from you.
The USA one, as I'm sure you know, is a bit different, the Mexican one is a very nice bass.

  3. I have a mexican Stu Hamm Urge 1 bass that I bought in a music store in altoona, PA before they went out of business. I'm willing to trade/sell if interest. I'm a sound engineering and on the process of making my own studio. Bought the bass because I needed a good bass guitar to keep at the studio mostly for recording purposes. So, as you can see i'm not either a bass collector or even a bass player. I'm just looking for a good bass that can give me a good sound for recording. Some bass players that used the Stu liked it, but takes them a while to get used to its unique shape and sound. Any thoughts? I think that in the stu's price range, I can find a good 'typical' bass guitar, and gave the Stu to someone who can appreciate it more than I do.

  4. Hi. Not really looking for anymore basses, at the moment I am trying to reduce the collection but glad you like yours.
The reason the most bass players wold take a while to get used to yours, is that the scale length is 32" and not 34", which is what most basses are. I'm sure you would get a very good trade for it and get your studio a std scale bass.
    Cheers. :)

  7. Hi. :)

Not sure what you mean by settings.
The MIA one is different to the one I had, which just had
    two Jazz type pick-ups.
Sorry I can't be of any more help. :)

  8. Hi,

I just bought a used MIM Stu Hamm Urge Standard, and I stumbled across your site looking for how the active controls work. I can't seem to find a manual anywhere on the web. I'm using mine for recording. I'm primarily a guitar player, but I write and record my own music and needed a decent bass.

  9. Hi. Unfortunately, I no longer have this bass, I think it flew the nest 5 or six years ago. The stack knobs are Volume and panning between pick-ups and the other one is Treble and Bass. Hope this helps. : )

  10. I have a MIM Urge 1 bass. I had it customized. I’m not a big fan or active pickups so I had it changed to passive. I also had the knobs changed to traditional jazz bass control knobs. Interestingly enough, the third pot is already routed out in the wood on the inside so the luthier I used just had to drill a hole. I love this bass!!
